LESSON OVERVIEW

The main objectives of this lesson are to:

• expand vocabulary by practising the use of advanced adjectives to describe personality traits;
• develop listening and interpretation skills through an informative video;
• discuss punctuality.

This lesson on advanced adjectives to describe personality allows students to express their thoughts on punctuality and improve their listening comprehension skills. Students also learn about timekeepers and timebenders and work in pairs to ask and answer questions to summarize their partner’s attitude to time.

VIDEO AND VOCABULARY

The lesson starts with a warm-up activity in which students choose a definition that best reflects their attitude to time and explain their choice. Then, students watch the intro of an informative video and answer questions about what they think of the video and its content. After that, they practise listening and interpretation skills. Students watch the second part of the video, read a short text and find one thing that is not true according to the speaker. They also practise advanced adjectives to describe personality by finding the definition or synonym of the words in bold (e.g. fidgety, conscientious, nonchalant, etc.) in the other sentences. After that, students discuss more points about time and punctuality and watch the third part of the video to compare their answers.

DISCUSSING PUNCTUALITY

In this part of the lesson, students watch the fourth video segment and elaborate on the statements about being on time. They reflect and talk about the points related to punctuality and personality traits, brainstorm ways to become more conscientious, and check their ideas by watching the last part of the video. After that, students pair up to ask and answer some questions. The questions contain advanced adjectives to describe personality traits students have learned in the lesson. Then, based on the answers, they summarize whether their partner is a timekeeper or a timebender and explain their choice. The lesson is wrapped with a discussion about punctuality.
