LESSON OVERVIEW

This is a Flipped Classroom lesson plan. In a nutshell, it means that the first part of the lesson needs to be done by students at home. Learn more about flipped classroom and how we implement it in these lesson plans in our post.

PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

At home students should do a crossword which focuses on vocabulary that seems useful when introducing the topic of procrastination. Students need to guess words such as postpone, instantly, deadline, trigger, distraction, delay, etc. There is a word procrastinate given in the crossword to help students complete it. Next, students read a short text about the phenomenon of procrastination and learn why we sometimes procrastinate. The text includes all the words from the crossword.

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The in-class worksheet starts with a short discussion about procrastination. Students move to another task in which they have to complete sentences with one word each and explain what the underlined phrases and phrasal verbs mean. These expressions come from the video students will watch later on. Before watching the video, students read some situations and discuss which ones would make them procrastinate. Next, they watch the video and choose the sentence that best describes the idea presented by the speaker. While watching the video for the second time, students have to fill in the sentences with 1 to 3 words. Finally, this procrastination lesson plan ends with an extensive discussion about the phenomenon where students can express their own opinions about it as well as comment on the tips given by the speaker.
