LESSON OVERVIEW
The main objectives of the lesson are to:
- discuss the article they read at home;
- learn vocabulary to talk about salaries;
- critically approach ideas related to employee compensation.
In this lesson students learn some useful vocabulary to talk about compensation, discuss location-based pay and its alternatives, and share their views on related issues.

ACTIVITIES
At the beginning of the lesson, students come up with reasons why companies employ people in different parts of the world. Then, they look at five ideas and match them with the statements that expand them. They also make sure they understand the expressions in bold in the statements (e.g. remuneration discrepancies, on the payroll, pay transparency). Students also talk about the issues they agree with or relate to personally. Next, they look at the approaches to compensation described in the article and discuss some questions to provide their opinions to assess the effectiveness of the approaches. Finally, students read some other ideas related to compensation that some companies adopt and comment on them.
