Description

Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

  • – Build human anatomy vocabulary including body parts, organs, and bone names while understanding nervous system functions through video comprehension exercises in this intermediate esl lesson.
  • – Explore movement and five senses by completing mind maps and identifying basic movements while engaging with Feldenkrais Awareness videos for adult english lessons.
  • – Use idioms with “run” like “run wild” and “run oneself to the ground” through speaking activities and discussions about body awareness using these english teaching materials.

In this ESL lesson, the student will learn and practice using vocabulary related to human anatomy and movement.

Bodies – we all have them; we all use them every day. In the 21st century, we mostly follow impulses and automatic responses of our bodies. We move. We have to! But is the movement always good for us? If you would like to learn to name some body parts and understand how some organs work, start this lesson without hesitation. As a bonus, you will learn how awareness and movement can improve our health and heal our lifestyles.

Warm-up

As an intro to the lesson, the student adds prefixes and suffixes to the word human in order to form new words with the same root.

Vocabulary: the human body

In a vocabulary check, the student matches organs and body parts with their functions.

Fun facts about the human body are presented with some information missing. The student completes the sentences by inserting the missing words.

The student then matches names of bones to the picture of a skeleton, after which they complete a skeleton quiz.

After watching a video about the autonomic nervous system, the student answers questions related to the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

Five senses and movement: vocabulary and discussion

After completing a mind map of the five senses, the student decides on the senses they use in different life situations.

The student identifies seven basic movements and fills in the gaps to revise their knowledge of movements.

Video: Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement

Before watching the video, the student matches phrases which will be used in the video with their definitions. After the video, there are two comprehension and discussion exercises related to it.

Idioms with run

After identifying the meanings of idioms with run (run wild, run oneself to the ground, etc.), the student practices using them in speech.
