LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this ESL lesson plan for adults and teens, students watch a news report and do a listening exercise on Easter traditions around the world. It includes discussion questions, conversation, and other activities about Easter and its global traditions. Students learn some important vocabulary words and phrases from the video. The post-viewing section includes CCQ discussion activities based on vocabulary featured in the video, as well as additional speaking / discussion topics based on the video, traditions, and Easter. The grammar activity features the usage of reduced relative clauses using present participles. There is a grammar acitivation writing / speaking task included, as well as a quiz and review section.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION

For people who celebrate Easter, it’s not all bunnies and candy. In southern Mexico, the Catholic faithfuls begin Holy Week with an overnight procession. Good Friday in Australia has a more sedate feel, while in the Czech Republic, an old tradition is given a fresh spin. Peruvians in central Lima celebrate with a procession in which worshippers wear purple while carrying the “Lord of the Miracles.”
