LESSON OVERVIEW
WARM-UP & DISCUSSION
The warm-up activity starts with a word map. Students have to complete it with synonyms of the word important (e.g. crucial, essential). The first letters are provided and, after having guessed the adjectives, students put them into practice. They discuss five statements related to the impact of social media on human relationships. This task is followed by another speaking activity in which students express their thoughts on two quotes about the necessity of human interaction.
VIDEO & DISCUSSION
These introductory speaking tasks lead to the second part of the lesson which starts with a video. First, students watch the beginning and describe the dystopian future it presents. Next, they personalise the activity and talk to each other about how they would feel in a world without face-to-face interaction. Then, they focus on four questions and watch the second part of the video to find the answers. Finally, they make predictions about how the video might finish. The listening task is followed by another discussion during which students speculate about the future of human interaction and the impact of the digital world on our wellbeing. Encourage them to use the synonyms of the word important when discussing and expressing their views.
