LESSON OVERVIEW

This objective of this lesson plan is to teach students some adjectives for describing products and show them a video analysing Apple’s legendary keynotes.

This is a Flipped Classroom lesson plan. In a nutshell, it means that the first part of the lesson needs to be done by students at home. Learn more about flipped classroom and how we implement it in these lesson plans in our post.

PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

In the pre‐class worksheet, students get three vocabulary exercises that should help them understand and practise adjectives for describing products. First, students read a short text about a smartwatch and underline all adjectives that they can find there. Next, they need to add some of the adjectives that they’ve underlined in the text to the word maps. The word maps include some common adjectives that might be useful for describing a product with some synonyms for each. The last activity students have to do before the class involves writing. They have to choose five adjectives from the previous exercise and write sentences describing different products.

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES Discussion & Listening comprehension

The in‐class worksheet starts with a short discussion about different devices that students have, Apple products as well as the keynotes that Apple does before launching new products. Next, students move to listening comprehension tasks based on a video analysing Apple’s legendary keynotes. First, students just watch a part of the video and complete the gaps in sentences about Apple’s keynote presentation style with one word each. Next, they watch the second part and have to write down three things that make Apple’s presentations stand out.

Speaking

This lesson plan on describing products ends with a short discussion about the video and Apple’s keynotes as well as a speaking task. Students have to choose one product they have or have read about online and present it using the adjectives from the lesson.
