LESSON OVERVIEW

This lesson plan about fame includes some related vocabulary as well as adjectives + prepositions that B1 students will learn and use in speaking. Students also watch a 2-min part of a video featuring Taylor Swift.

VOCABULARY

First, as a warm‐up, students have to brainstorm what comes into their minds when they hear the word fame. To do this task, you can make students work in pairs or groups, if possible. Next, they learn some related vocabulary. They read a few sentences and match the underlined words and phrases to the meanings given. The task is based around the following words and phrases: follow, stare, be in the public eye, the centre of attention, well-known. Then, they discuss a few questions that include the vocabulary from the previous exercise.

As a lead-in to the video, students talk about some quotes by famous people (e.g. Kylie Jenner, Steve Harvey). Then, they have to do a listening comprehension task. In the task, they just watch a part of the video (2 min) and answer some questions about how Taylor Swift feels with fame. Next, they move to a discussion about fame, celebrities and the dark sides of being famous.

ADJECTIVES & PREPOSITIONS

The last part of this lesson plan about fame is built around nine adjectives and the prepositions that usually go with them. First, students have to complete questions with correct prepositions. After checking the answers, students discuss the questions (they all concern the topic of fame). What’s more, students get homework. Their task is to find five more adjectives that go with the prepositions from the previous exercise (about, for, of, to, with) and write sentences with them.
