Description

LESSON OVERVIEW

With this lesson plan, students discuss how they feel about a bossless workplace. They also learn some useful vocabulary related to worker cooperatives and the hierarchical structure of a traditional workplace.

This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet. With this format, students need to read an online article at home and do the exercises in the classroom. Learn more about how to use such worksheets and their benefits in our post.

ACTIVITIES

At the beginning of the lesson students share what they remember about the types of bosses mentioned in the article they read at home (e.g. girlboss, creative genius). After that, they look at a list of words and phrases (e.g. subordinate, union, collective decisions) and decide if they can generally be used to refer to a bossless workplace or a workplace with a boss. They have to justify their answers. Next, students discuss some questions which refer to what they learned from the article, and they share their opinions on worker cooperatives. In the last exercise, students read five statements about worker cooperatives and decide if they present their strengths or weaknesses
