Description

LESSON OVERVIEW

This is a Flipped Classroom lesson plan. In a nutshell, it means that the first part of the lesson needs to be done by students at home. Learn more about flipped classroom and how we implement it in these lesson plans in our post.

PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The worksheet starts with general questions which include words such as landmark, monument, spot. Students need to study these questions and think how they would answer them. Next, they move to a vocabulary exercise. They have to complete the table by dividing given adjectives into positive and negative ones. Thanks to the task, students will learn a lot of adjectives, including unsightly, grim, iconic, majestic, hideous, etc. Finally, they have to choose five adjectives and write sentences with them.

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The in-class worksheet starts with a speaking task. Students get the pictures of different buildings and have to describe them using vocabulary they have learnt in previous activities. Next, they study the meaning of the word copycat and answer the question what copycat architecture might mean. After that, they watch the video and write down the names of the famous buildings that have been replicated. Then, they move to another activity. They need to put the words from the box into the gaps in the questions. Afterwards, they watch the video again and find answers to these questions. Finally, this lesson plan about architecture ends with a quite extensive discussion about copycat architecture as well as copying in general.
