LESSON OVERVIEW

This logos lesson plan deals with various logos that we are bombarded with every day. It is based on a video about eight iconic logos and their hidden meanings. The worksheet consists of different vocabulary activities and creates a lot of opportunities for students to speak a lot.

This is a Flipped Classroom lesson plan. In a nutshell, it means that the first part of the lesson needs to be done by students at home. Learn more about flipped classroom and how we implement it in these lesson plans in our post.

PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

At home students need to prepare themselves for the class by learning some vocabulary. First, they have to match words given to correct shapes in the picture. It might seem that we included in this worksheet basic shapes, but from our experience not all adult students are really able to name them properly. Next, students have to form adjectives from the shapes they’ve learned in the previous task. The last activity involves listening comprehension. Students watch a video about eight famous logos and answer a few comprehension questions.

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The in-class worksheet starts with a short discussion about the video, logos, their meanings as well as their importance in terms of brand identity. After that, students read a short description of the Adidas logo. Apart from the explanation of the meaning of the logo and its hidden message, you will also find some useful language in the text. Students have to match these words with two other words below which have a similar meaning. There are such words as resemble, symbolize, eye-catching, recognizable, etc. In the next exercise, students work in pairs to describe some logos we researched as well as figure out their hidden messages. On the last page of the teacher’s version of the worksheet, there is a list of the logos used in the previous task with short descriptions. So if you see that your students have problems with finding hidden messages, you can help them a bit. Alternatively, you can print this last page of this logos lesson plan for all students so after a discussion they can discover the meanings of these logos.
