LESSON OVERVIEW

This ESL lesson focuses on facts and myths about technology. Students learn some tech vocabulary, watch a video, discuss myths related to gadgets and do a quiz.  

WARM-UP & VOCABULARY

The lesson starts with a warm-up activity. Students look at the picture and do some tasks (e.g. name devices, talk about their use, etc.). Students can also play Kim’s game where they test their memory and try to memorise the items in the picture. After the warm-up, students do vocabulary activities. First, they read sentences and choose the correct word or phrase (e.g. lifespan, damage, overheat). Then, they complete a text with the words they choose. Students also have a discussion and talk about the text and share their experience of using gadgets. After that, students move on to discuss facts and myths about technology more.

DISCUSSING FACTS AND MYTHS ABOUT TECHNOLOGY

In this part of the lesson students watch a video. Before watching the video, students work with some sentences and correct grammatical mistakes. Then, students say whether the sentences are true or false. Students watch the video and check their answers. After the video, students discuss it and talk more about facts and myths about technology. The lesson finishes with an interactive task in which students do a quiz about technology. They read sentences to their partners and ask them to guess whether the sentences are true or false. They also have to give reasons why they think so. 

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This lesson also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students practise the use of the vocabulary from the lesson. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
