In this passive income lesson plan, students watch a video, learn vocabulary and have speaking practice. 

VOCABULARY & VIDEO

In the warm-up activity of this passive income lesson plan students discuss some general ideas related to the topic of the lesson. Then, students read some statistics connected with passive income and choose two phrases relevant in each context. The phrases include e.g. average about, boost someone’s income, seed money, diversify. Students choose three of the facts and discuss whether they think they are similar to those in their country. 

After that, students watch the first part of the video. While watching, they need to order events and add one detail to each point. Next, they discuss some questions related to the ideas mentioned in the video. They also brainstorm the factors that one needs to consider when starting a vending machine business to avoid failure. Students watch the second part of the video to check their ideas. While watching the third part, they answer some comprehension questions. 

SPEAKING

In the second part of this passive income lesson plan, students do two speaking activities. First, they look at a list of passive income ideas and choose one they would prefer to start. Then, they need to answer some questions about the details of the idea, e.g. what the seed money would be, what factors they would need to take into account in order not to fail, etc. They also talk about some risks associated with the idea. 

In the second speaking task, students read some statements and decide whether they agree with them. The statements are related to the idea of passive income and the different approaches people have towards it. 

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This passive income lesson plan also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. It’s available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it, cut it up and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
