This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet. With this format, students need to read an online article at home and do the exercises in the classroom. Learn more about how to use such worksheets and their benefits in our post.
ACTIVITIES
In the warm-up activity, students look at a statistic mentioned in the article and say what it has or has not surprised them. Then, they look at some statements and complete gaps in them with one word each. This way, students create some useful phrases (e.g. within one’s job description, go above and beyond, set boundaries). Then, they match the statements to five terms listed in the next task (e.g. hustle culture, quiet quitting, quiet firing). Students also discuss some questions related to the defined terms. For instance, they talk about their experience with the phenomena. Finally, students look at some comments and decide how they would respond to them. The comments refer to the issues covered in the article. Students are encouraged to use the phrases learned at the beginning of the lesson.
