LESSON OVERVIEW
In this lesson, students discuss what they learned from the article, talk about materialism and how the pandemic influenced our view of material gains, and do a transformation task.

ACTIVITIES
At the beginning of the lesson, students say what surprised them in the article they read at home or give reasons why they think it was predictable. After that, they do a transformation task in which they need to rewrite underlined parts of statements using the provided word which cannot be changed. Then, they decide if they would call the things described in the statements serious social issues (e.g. Children are taught to associate material gain with rewards for good behaviour.). In the second speaking activity, students decide how important certain aspects (e.g. acquiring new possessions, sharing life with the people we love) are for the people in their country. Finally, students discuss some questions related to materialism.
