Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

  • – Analyze and discuss the reasons and events that lead up to the French Revolution and the French Revolution’s long-term impact on European politics.
  • – Practice and apply advanced English language skills through activities like synonym matching and categorization.
  • – Utilize a video called “What caused the French Revolution?” and a reading passage about what political revolutions are; to practice reading comprehension, analytical, and discussion skills in English.

Warm-up

Students will start with a vocabulary synonym activity related to political revolutions.

Video

Students will watch a video called,“What caused the French Revolution?”. Afterwards, students will complete a comprehension activity through a “we do” series of questions. 

Exercises

In this “you do” part of the lesson, students will continue to apply and practice their skills with English vocabulary about the French Revolution and ideals through categorization and a game called “two truths and a lie”. 

Reading

Students will read a passage about what political revolutions are.  Afterwards, they will complete a comprehension activity by identifying factors mentioned in the text.

Wrap Up

In the final practice activity for the English lesson,  students will have a discussion with their teacher, using the prompts provided about the French Revolution and its impact.
