The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

  • – broaden vocabulary related to lifestyle choices;

  • – learn and practice the uses of clauses of contrast;

  • – watch a video about “Being Childfree by Choice: Five Women on Why They Decided Not to Have Kids” and answer comprehension questions.

In this Intermediate ESL lesson plan, the goal is to broaden students’ vocabulary related to lifestyle choices. The lesson also introduces and practices the uses of clauses of contrast.

Warm-upThe lesson starts with an exercise where students organize words to create sentences. 

Video Students will watch a video named “Being childfree by choice: five women on why they decided not to have kids.” Post-viewing, they will fill gaps in sentences to check for comprehension.

GrammarFocus here is introducing the uses of clauses of contrast. Examples are given to aid understanding.

ExercisesIn this part of the lesson, students will fill gaps in sentences with clauses of contrast. They will also complete words with the missing letters to create lifestyle-related phrases. 

ReadingStudents will read a short text about childfree women, followed by a Q&A session.

DiscussionTo wrap up, students will discuss a quote.
