Lesson overview

The main goals of this ESL lesson plan are to:

  • – expand vocabulary related to wildlife through picture description exercises and reading about animals, particularly focusing on lions and their characteristics;
  • – introduce and practice the want/need somebody to do something structure through example analysis and sentence rewriting exercises while maintaining similar meanings;
  • – improve comprehension and speaking skills by watching a video about lions with gap-fill activities, reading a related text, and engaging in discussions using synonyms and descriptive language about wildlife.

In this Pre-Intermediate ESL lesson plan, the goal is to broaden students’ vocabulary on the theme of wildlife. The lesson also introduces and practices the use of want/need somebody to do something structure.

Warm-upThe lesson starts with an exercise where students come up with one word to describe the pictures.

VideoStudents will watch a video named “Lions 101.” Post-viewing, they will fill gaps in sentences related to the video to check for comprehension.

GrammarFocus here is on introducing the want/need somebody to do something structure. Examples are given to aid understanding.

ExercisesIn this part of the lesson, students will rewrite sentences using the want/need somebody to do something structure while keeping a similar meaning.

ReadingStudents will read a short text about lions, followed by a Q&A session.

DiscussionTo wrap up, students will come up with synonyms to the word BIG and use these words to discuss lions with the teacher.
