LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this ESL lesson plan for adults and teens, students watch and listen to a community healthcare initiative that aims to bring healthcare to underserved regions. It includes discussion, conversation, and vocabulary activities about healthcare, health issues, and community health. Students then do some listening/viewing comprehension activities based on the video. The viewing follow-up includes some additional discussion, an activity on a quote from the video, and a matching activity of some of the world’s most prevalent health issues. There is an additional research & healthcare planning activity, as well as a quiz & review and lesson reflection included.

Can training neighbors to provide basic health care to each other help save lives? That’s the promise of community health care workers who are being trained in developing countries, and they could help out in the developed world as well.
