Description

SAVING MONEY ESL LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this ESL lesson plan for adults, students watch and list to a video report about connections between the brain, saving money, happiness, and retirement. It includes discussion questions, conversation, and vocabulary activities about money and retirement. Students then do some listening/viewing comprehension activities based on the video. The viewing follow-up includes some additional discussion based on some video comments, and two activities comparing different types of retirement plans. There are additional retirement planning and “future self” tasks. There is a quiz & review as well as a lesson reflection included.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION

Retirement can feel abstract—especially for young people who are just starting in their careers—which makes preparing for it less of a priority. By understanding how the brain impacts certain decisions, we can hack those biases to develop better saving practices and work toward more tangible goals. Building on small decisions over time gives you the ability to course correct if strategies are not working out, and leaves room for meaningful progress at your own pace.
