LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this ESL lesson plan for adults and teens, students watch a short video report and do a viewing/listening exercise about seasonal affective disorder (SAD). It includes discussion questions and conversation activities about winter, mood, and seasonal affective disorder. Students also learn some important vocabulary terms and phrases from the video. The post-viewing section includes a matching activity based on some of the phrases from the video and a discussion activity on treatment options for SAD. There are additional role play and story tasks, an optional bonus activity on interjections, and a quiz & review section included.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION

Reactions is shedding some light on the science behind Seasonal Affective Disorder. As the days get shorter, darker and colder, people seem to be getting gloomier. For folks with seasonal affective disorder, the changing seasons can make them sadder than most, to the point of depression. Why does this happen? What can someone with the condition do about it? Reactions has the chemistry to explain this disorder and some possible treatments.
