LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this ESL lesson plan for adults and teens, students watch and do a listening exercise on an informational video report about astrology. It includes discussion questions and conversation activities about astrology, zodiac signs, and the horoscope. Students also learn some important vocabulary terms and phrases from the video. The post-viewing section includes follow-up discussion questions based on the video, vocabulary context usage, and choosing the correct definitions of some vocabulary phrases based on the usage in the video. There are additional research & discussion and role play tasks included, as well as a quiz and review section.

Astrology has become hugely popular among young people. It is memeable, does not have a history of discrimination against certain demographics, and offers a more ‘secular’ belief system. But is it a force for good and self-analysis or a dangerously deterministic practice?
