LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this ESL lesson plan for adults and teens, students watch a short interview with a fitness model who lives without a pulse and has an artificial heart. It includes discussion questions, conversation, and other activities about the human heart, medical technology, and physical fitness. Students also learn some important vocabulary terms and phrases from the video. There are also sections on word choice, prepositions, and parts of speech. There are additional speaking tasks included, as well as a quiz and review section with a bonus activity.

Andrew Jones jokes that he’s “the best looking zombie you’ll ever see.” The fitness model and body builder technically has no pulse, and has built an impressive physique on an artificial heart. Until he receives a donor match, he keeps a constant supply of batteries on him. Heart or no heart, he hasn’t let anything stop him from staying active and living the life he wants.
