LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this ESL lesson plan for adults and teens, students watch an animated TED Ed video about the benefits of being bilingual. It includes discussion questions, conversation, and other activities about learning foreign languages. Students learn some important vocabulary words, phrasal verbs, and prepositions from the video. The post-viewing task includes sections for prefixes and parts of speech. There are additional speaking tasks, as well as a quiz and review section with a bonus activity.

It’s obvious that knowing more than one language can make certain things easier — like traveling or watching movies without subtitles. But are there other advantages to having a bilingual (or multilingual) brain? Mia Nacamulli details the three types of bilingual brains and shows how knowing more than one language keeps your brain healthy, complex and actively engaged.
