LESSON OVERVIEW
WORD FORMATION
The worksheet starts with a speaking activity. Students have to describe four photos using words from the list. The list includes the following words: cosy, comfy, snug, homely, warm, pleasant, welcoming, intimate. You might want to check that your students understand all these words before asking them to describe the phots. Next, students move to a word formation task. They need to complete the sentences with the correct forms of the words in brackets. They have to create such words as ambience, indulgence, pleasure, cosiness, etc. Then, they move to an extended discussion about their pleasures during the autumn and winter season and creating cosy ambience at home. All the questions somehow lead to a video which this lesson plan on hygge is based on.
VIDEO & PAIRWORK
The listening comprehension part is divided in two exercises. Students watch the first part of the video and answer the questions about the concept of hygge, the author of a book about it and activities which the term includes. Next, students have to watch the second part of the video and create questions to the answers given. After checking the answers, engage students in a discussion about the ideas shown in the video. Finally, this lesson plan on hygge ends with pairwork speaking task. Students look at the list of various hygge activities. They have to choose five that would bring everyday happiness and pleasure to people from their country. Of course, they need to justify their choice.
